Purpose Statement

Whereas according to the Word of God it is the duty of Christians:

  • To conform to the divine Word in doctrine and practice

    (Psalm 119:105; Matthew 28:18-20; Galatians 1:6-8; 2 Timothy 4:1-5);

  • To be in fellowship with those who confess the true faith by keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace

    (Acts 2:42-47; Ephesians 4:3-6; Hebrews 10:24-25; 1 John 2:19; 1 Corinthians 1:10-11);

  • To preach the Word of God faithfully, according to our Lord's own instruction

    (John 6:63; John 14:23; Revelation 22:18-19);

  • To have the Office of the Keys and the Sacraments administered in the congregation according to Christ's institution

    (Matthew 18:17; John 20:22-23; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26);

  • To instruct youth and adults according to the confessional standard of the Lutheran Church

    (Article 3.0) (Ephesians 6:4; 2 Timothy 2:2);

  • To spread the Kingdom of God in all the world through local evangelism and by adequately supporting the work of District and Synod

    (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8);

  • To conduct all affairs "decently and in order"

    (1 Corinthians 14:40);

Therefore, we, the members of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Chilton, Wisconsin, in agreement with the principles outlined above, declare ourselves united as a congregation and herewith accept and subscribe to the following constitution and bylaws, in accordance with which all spiritual and temporal affairs of our congregation shall be governed, for the purpose of fulfilling the duties described above.
